Point something to build on for Purewal

After helping his side earn a hard fought point at Marine, centre back Arjun Purewal was quick to praise his team mates for a performance that he described as “fantastic”. The former Whitby Town defender made his competitive Spartans debut at the Arriva Stadium and feels that such a good show gives Tom Wade’s side a base to build a good start to the season on.

“It’s a good start with a lot of new players and a very young side. It’s a tough place to come but we settled well and we are all gutted we couldn’t see it out to take all three points. Before the game we would have took a point, the lads were fantastic today and we just have to take that forward and build on it.”

Purewal formed a new look partnership at the heart of the Spartans defence with fellow debutant Danny Parker and they were impressive at the Arriva Stadium as individuals and as a partnership. Purewal was delighted with how they played and was hopeful that the partnership would be given time to develop throughout the hectic schedule Spartans face over the coming months.

“We just try and do the basics and take no chances. You might well say it’s a nice pitch out there but if you make a mistake on it then you wouldn’t say it’s so nice to we just tried to take no chances. We did well and hopefully we can carry that on together.”

Attention now turns to Tuesday night’s Croft Park opener as newly promoted Trafford make the journey to Blyth and Purewal warned his side against taking the Manchester outfit lightly but feels they can take all three points.

“It’s a tough game against Trafford, they’ve obviously just got promoted and will want to come and make an impact but if we can do what we did well today we can get our first win”
