One of those days – Maguire

Chances came and chances went but for Spartans striker Dan Maguire the narrow defeat at Trafford could be put down as “one of those days”. The likes of Robbie Dale, Paul Robinson and Maguire himself went close but couldn’t force an equaliser against a dogged home side. The former Seaton Delaval man was disappointed to not get a point he felt his side deserved.

“We had enough chances and just couldn’t force an equaliser. We hit the post and their keeper has made a couple of good saves but we missed too many chances. It was just one of those days to be honest but I think we deserved a point”

As Tom Wade’s side pushed for an equaliser the Spartans manager changed formation with Robbie Dale pushed up front alongside Maguire. That move paid dividends as they duo linked up to get their side back in the game and Maguire paid tribute to his team mate.

“It’s good to play up front with Robbie and I think we are on the same wavelength. Obviously we were going for it at that point and the goal came from a bit of link up play between us”

Spartans have an ideal opportunity to put the defeat in Lancashire behind them as Stamford make the long trip to Croft Park next Saturday. Maguire urged his team mates to look forward to the game and make sure they had no regrets next time out.

“We have to put this behind us and that starts next Saturday against Stamford. We have to start taking chances and hopefully we can do that back at home”
