One of the best I’ve scored- McGorrigan

Reflecting on his stunning twenty five yard volley that secured a point for Spartans, striker Ryan McGorrigan hailed the effort as one of the best of his career. Taking a pass from Neal Hooks, the former Newcastle United and Gateshead front man unleashed an unstoppable effort past Nick Liversedge in the Seasiders goal and received a boisterous reception from the Croft Park faithful. The twenty year old forward said “It’s definitely one of the best I’ve scored, it’s certainly up there I think. I just went for it really, the game was there for the taking and I just went for it. You are looking for a clean connection first of all and I couldn’t have asked for it to pop up better than it did. It was great to see it go in.”

Since joining Spartans in October from Gateshead, McGorrigan has been partnered in the front line by several different players and was able to add another name to that list as he came off the substitutes bench to partner new boy Andy Jennings to good effect. Both players grabbed goals to secure a point for Spartans and McGorrigan was full of praise for the former Billingham Synthonia hitman. He said “It’s really helpful having him alongside you. He can muscle in on defenders and flick on and he’s superb to play off as a smaller striker. You’ve seen it today because he’s helped me get in and he’s helped Phil(Airey) get in so he will definitely help us get more goals”.

Whilst obviously delighted to gain a point after going into the half time break two goals down, Spartans can look to several chances in the last ten minutes with some regret. McGorrigan revealed that it is something that management duo Paddy Atkinson and Tom Wade are working on as they go looking for more points. He said “We had some great chances and we should have taken them. It’s been the same for the past few weeks where we have had a load of great chances but couldn’t take them. It’s something the Paddy and Tom are working on with us and hopefully it will come good over the next few weeks.”
