Superstar Savage shines as Spartans run out 3-0 winners away to Stockton Town gaining back to back league victories.
Daniel Savage’s brace and another for Billy Gordon all in the second half were enough to see Spartans take home the three points.
Spartans were coming into the game looking for back to back league victories and the first away win of the season with the hosts looking to bounce back to winning ways in the league following 2 defeats to Macclesfield and Lancaster City.
It was a tense start for both teams with either struggling to get a real foothold in the game.
In the 26th minute new signing Lewis Stephenson got down the right hand side but his shot was fired high over the bar.
The first real chance for Stockton came in the 34th minute where Micheal Sweets effort was saved well by Harrison Bond down to his right with the follow up effort cleared off the line by Connor Pani.
Captain Nicky Deverdics came very close to putting Blyth one up just before the break when his effort from the edge of the box narrowly missed the target.
A goalless first half with plenty encouraging signs to take into the second.
Half time: Stockton Town 0-0 Blyth Spartans
Spartans started the second half as they meant to go on with good link up play between Billy Gordon and Dan Savage who was fouled on the edge of the box. Deverdics’ resulting free kick was saved well by Nathan Harker.
Blyth’s hard work paid off with their first goal coming just minutes later from Savage, Pani’s ball into the box was deflected off a Stockton defender and saved well by Harker, however, Savage was on hand to force home and open his and Spartans’ account for the match.
In the 60th minute Gordon doubled the lead following some good build up play around the box. Savage’s ball across goal was fired home through the legs of the keeper by Gordon, who netted his 4th league goal this season.
Spartans rapped up the game just ten minutes from time as the hardworking Savage secured his second of the game. A beautiful ball through by Deverdics found Savage in the box who controlled well and under pressure slotted home nicely to secure all three points.
A very strong away performance from Blyth gaining another three points in the league and another clean sheet.
