Blyth Spartans begin their Newcastle Flooring Northumberland Senior Cup campaign on Thursday evening as we face Newcastle University at Essity Park in Prudhoe in the first round of the competition.
Last season the Spartans exited out of the competition in the quarter-finals to Newcastle Benfield as they won 4-3 on penalties after the game finished 1-1.

Directions to Essity Park – NE42 5EH – from Croft Park – NE24 3JE – 22.8 miles, 35 minutes.
Start at Croft Park and get on A189 from Plessey Road, B1523 and A1061 – 3.6 miles, 8 minutes.
Then follow A189, A19 and A1 to Newcastle upon Tyne and take exit 74 from A1 – 12.2 miles, 15 minutes.
Continue on A695. Drive to Broomhouse Road in Prudhoe and arrive at Essity Park – 7 miles, 13 minutes.

Like last year the Senior Cup will see members of the academy getting a chance in the 1st team. In total there will be nine players from the academy involved in the squad

Looking ahead to the Northumberland Senior Cup, David Stockdale said: “There might be a few coming back from injury that could get minutes on Thursday night.
“So if I can really help that out and get people minutes it gives us options and I’m not just throwing people in from the start.”

OPPOSITION
Newcastle University play in the Northern Football League Division Two where they currently sit 17th in the league standings after 16 matches.
Last year in the Northumberland Senior Cup, they suffered a first-round exit after a 3-1 defeat at home to North Shields.
