Blyth Spartans started 2022 the way they ended 2021 with a battling win over local rivals (this time Gateshead), in front of a crowd of 2,027 at Croft Park. First half goals from JJ O’Donnell and Robbie Dale gave Spartans a 2-1 lead at the break despite going down to an early goal scored by P.Blackett of Gateshead. Although Gateshead threw everything at the Spartans goal in the second half, the Spartans defence with Alex Mitchell in goal, held strong to guarantee the three points.
