Just not good enough says Hubbard

Spartans midfielder Craig Hubbard reflected on his side’s 1-2 at Frickley Athletic by saying that he felt his side got exactly what they deserved for a below par performance. The former West Auckland midfielder made his second start in the green and white and impressed in the engine room alongside Neal Hooks but ended up on the losing side and feels that there were many reasons Spartans came away empty handed.

He said “We got off to a really slow start and gave away two goals that were just to easy for them really. It was all downhill from there and we didn’t really get going. We misplaced too many easy passes for my liking and I include myself in that. We were second best and lost too many battles around the park and that’s not good enough for us.”

Spartans did on the positive side create four or five really good chances to steal a point from the game but Hubbard felt that they only have themselves to blame for the defeat. He commented “We need to improve all over the park and yes we had chances but we didn’t take them at the end of the day. They had two or three chances and taken them and that’s the difference but it has happened a lot so far this season and it needs to improve.”

Paddy Atkinson’s side will look to take home comforts as Buxton travel to Croft Park next Saturday as the Spartans manager will look to exact revenge upon the side that condemned his side to defeat in his first game as manager and Hubbard feels they owe Atkinson a performance. He said “Paddy has brought a lot of us to this club and we are looking to gel but we have to do better. Every game should be seen as winnable and next week especially being at home, in front of our own fans. Paddy and Tom deserve better than what they got today and we have to start that next week.”
