Jake Cunningham Agrees To Stay

Signed up for the new seasonBlyth Spartans can confirm that Jake Cunningham has also agreed to sign for the club for the upcoming league campaign.

The 20-year-old was signed for the Spartans at the start of last season following his release from Scottish side St. Mirren and after a highly impressive pre-season went on to feature in the Spartans first team 11 times, keeping 4 clean sheets in the process.

Whilst often an understudy to Mark Gillespie and Dan Lowson, Jake was always ready and willing when called upon by the Spartans in their absence.

Manager Steve Cuggy commented “We’re pleased Jake has agreed to stay, as he has experience of the Blue Square Bet North which is important.”

“We now have three keepers signed up and as I have said previously these will all be given a fair crack of the whip in pre-season. The goalkeeper is a crucial role in the side and we want to get it right. All of the ‘keepers will be working hard with Carl King over the next few weeks and I will be speaking with him, before making my mind up on who gets the nod.”
