It’s 50 For The Bull!

The BullAffectionately nicknamed ‘The Bull’ John Alexander made his 50th appearance for Blyth Spartans on Saturday against Vauxhall Motors and marked this milestone with a crucial goal just seconds before the half time whistle.

Having been unlucky with injuries this season Alexander is gradually working his way back to full fitness and was delighted to get on the score sheet after coming off the bench to replace the injured Neal Hooks.

Alexander said. “As long as I play well for the team I’m not bothered if I score or not but obviously I’m a striker and I’m judged on my goals at the end of the day.

“I wasn’t aware that I was making my 50th appearance. I really like the set up here and I’m enjoying my football.”

Alexander had painful memories of Blyth’s last visit to Rivacre Park, in the 5-1 FA cup qualifier defeat in September and believes it was important to get revenge.

“It was a bad day when we lost in the cup and probably the lowest point in the season so it was very important to get our own back on them.

“It was also good to continue our good form of late and you can see the confidence is coming back with every win.”

Celebrating another goal

‘The Bull’ is also looking forward to the Northumberland Senior cup clash against Benfield on Wednesday.

He said. “It’s our last chance to get to a final so we’re going to do all we can to win it.”
