Honest Jeffries angry at display

A frank Peter Jeffries was honest in his assessment of Spartans performance in the home defeat to Buxton. The keeper – named Man of the Match by local journalists – did all he could to keep his side in with a chance of at very least a point but that was to be snatched away by Shaun Tuton’s late winner and that left Jeffries almost lost for words.

“We have set standard and we just haven’t met them. We were given orders, we knew what we had to do and we just haven’t done that. I’m lost for words and it just wasn’t the performance that we wanted to give”

Things don’t get much easier for Spartans as they face a trip to Skelmersdale United – currently sat top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League – on Tuesday night and Jeffries is adamant that his side will bounce back in what he admitted would be a “very tough game”.

“It’s a long trip admittedly but we will make sure every player pulls their socks up and bounces back from today. We need to be doing everything we are asked and we need to be giving 100% every game whether it’s at home or away and that has to happen on Tuesday because it is a very tough game”
