Greg Halford becomes the latest Spartan signing

Blyth Spartans are delighted to announce the signing of Greg Halford.

The 39-year-old has enjoyed a professional career that has spanned more than 20 years and joins Blyth following a stint with Southern League Premier Division Central side Bishop’s Stortford where he joined in the summer after two years in the Isthmian League Premier Division for Hashtag United.

Halford has experienced the majority of the English Football Pyramid playing from Step One down to Step Seven.

He has gained valuable experience playing for Colchester United, Reading, Wolves, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Aberdeen, Waterford and many more clubs across England.

Naturally, he plays his trade as a defender playing right-back or centre-back, but has been used as a central midfielder, right winger and even as a striker at times in his career.

On joining Blyth, Greg Halford said: “I’m really excited to be here and back up in the North-East, it has been a while.

“I’m looking forward to working under [David] Stockdale as well, who I’ve known for several years. I’m just really looking forward to it and meeting all of the lads.”

On the signing of Greg Halford, David Stockdale said: “He’s a good, experienced utility player, who has played everywhere over his career.

“He’s about bringing people in who know what the game is about and to help the young lads through and I’m ecstatic that he’s agreed to join us.”

Welcome to Blyth, Greg!
