Blyth Spartans has a long running association with the British Royal Navy vessel HMS Blyth. This week the club recieved an update from Commanding Officer Tim Davey, informing everybody at the club that the replacement Spartans flag that was sent to the ship had been recieved and was being put to good use already.
Spartans arranged for a new flag to be sent to the crew of HMS Blyth after we were made aware of the poor condition of the existing one and we are delighted to announce that due to the long running relationship of the club and the vessel, the Royal Navy continue to give permission for the new Spartans flag to be flown whilst the crew are on a training exercise at present. So a Blyth Spartans flag flies proudly alongside the White Ensign and Nato flag at the mast of the vessel.
As Tommy Cassidy and the team strive for success on the pitch, HMS Blyth have shown the way forward. Taking part in a recent tournament with their foreign counterparts from NATO, the HMS Blyth side clad in their Spartans kits ran out victors beating other Forces teams from around Europe.
Spartans General Manager Ian Evans said “Anyone connected with the club will be only too aware of our long standing relationship with HMS Blyth and the crew have visited Croft Park on many occasions. We are very proud and honoured that our club flag is flying high whilst our brave troops are on duty on the ship and hope to see the crew back at Croft Park in the not too distant future.”
