Goalkeeper Dan Lowson expressed his delight after tasting victory and keeping a clean sheet on his Blyth Spartans debut against high flying Telford United.
He said: “I’ve played against Telford before so I knew it would be a tough game. It’s obviously great to keep a clean sheet but winning is the most important thing. It was fantastic for us.”
Lowson added: “I didn’t realise that they hadn’t lost a game away from home so that makes it an even better result.”
The former Gretna and Ilkeston Town stopper had to be at his best in the first half to deny Telford’s Phillip John with a tremendous one handed save but was quick to praise his team mates for making it a relatively quiet night between the sticks.
“Apart from that save I didn’t have a lot to do because the lads didn’t allow them many chances. We closed them down and didn’t let them play.”
The 22-year-old keeper has been training with the squad for over a month but only finalised his contract last week.
“I knew a lot of the players before I started training with them. We have got a quality squad and I’m very happy to be joining a club like Blyth.”
Lowson hasn’t played in this season’s FA Trophy and is therefore not cup tied for the competition which feature’s Blyth against Droylsden at Croft Park in the last 16.
He said: “I’ve been lucky because we’ve already progressed through a few rounds of the competition and now I’ve got that to look forward to.”
