Competition driving Grant on

Spartans keeper Conor Grant has made an impressive start to the season earning the Man of the Match award at Marine on Saturday and making a number of key stop in tonight’s win over Trafford. The former Gretna man is happy with the start he has made but paid tribute to the work done by Goalkeeper coach John Bottensien and the competition provided by Spartans other keepers.

“I’ve enjoyed the start to the season personally and obviously the competition at the club helps. We have two other very good goalkeepers signed on and they drive me on. There’s plenty competition and John the keeper coach works us hard so you just have to keep the shirt once you’re in possession of it”

Four points from a possible six has seen Spartans make a solid start to the new season and Grant feels that the away draw at Marine and home win over newly promoted Trafford should set the standard for the remaining part of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign.

“It’s a good solid start for us and we have to be happy with it. You look to get at least a draw from your away games and win your home games so we need to keep this up if we are to have a successful season”

It was a tough season last time out for Spartans supporters but the opening two fixtures have shown promise. Worksop Town visit Croft Park this coming Saturday and Grant wants to reward the Green Army with another win against the Tigers.

“It’s another game at home so we can look to build on the good start we have had and hopefully get another win. We have to push on and hopefully get another win for our supporters”
