Mark Doninger’s trial at Burton Albion has gone beyond his appearance in the Birmingham Senior Cup, as he has been asked to remain at the Pirelli Stadium for longer so that ‘the Brewers’ can have a better look at the midfielder. Spartans midfielder Mark Doninger will make an trial appearance for League Two side Burton Albion in tonight’s Birmingham Senior Cup clash with Romulus. This follows on from trial games at Derby County and Hartlepool United, as well as reported interest from League Two side Grimsby Town. Young midfielder James Marwood has followed new manager Adam Sadler to Team Northumbria in the Northern League. Blyth Spartans can announce the signing of former Newcastle United striker Guy Bates from Drogheda United. Bates, 24, is a tall, powerful striker who has played in Australia (Newcastle Jets), Belgium (K.V. Oostende and R.A.A. Louviéroise) and the Republic of Ireland (Drogheda United), he also has English football league experience with Darlington, since being released by Newcastle in 2005.
