On Easter Saturday Blyth striker Anthony Shandran pulled a rabbit out of the hat deftly turning the Workington defence before looking up and stroking the ball home with consummate ease. The goal gave Blyth three points against their Cumbrian hosts – their first away win in eight attempts. Blyth picked up 3 potentially crucial points in their attempt to avoid relegation in Saturday’s clash with Workington. Blyth’s goal was a smartly taken strike from Anthony Shandran (his first goal for the club) following excellent work in midfield from Gary Brown. More reaction will follow later.

Prior to the home game against Droylsden, Colin Bassam from the Port of Blyth was on hand to present Marc Walton with the Port of Blyth Player of the Month for March 2009.

Blyth travelled to Tameside tonight for a crucial Blue Square North clash with Hyde United and sadly for the Spartans (and their hopes of remaining in the league) they lost 1-0 to a 78 minute goal from David Owens.
