Spartans defender Nathan Buddle reflected on the 3-3 draw with Worksop Town calling it a “kick in the teeth” after the Tigers snatched the most unlikely of points with a late equaliser. The former Hartlepool United man and his team mates had played some exciting attacking football only to see Leon Mettam grab a point with a ninety first minute goal but Buddle is already looking ahead rather than dwelling on the disappointment of the late goal.

“The manager has rightly just said we absolutely battered them in particular in the second half but fair play to them they kept on pushing and it’s a kick in the teeth. Maybe we invited the pressure and Neal Hooks has just said in the dressing room we need to learn to see games out. It doesn’t feel like we have got a point, it feels like a loss but we take that into Monday and kick on from there”

With Tom Wade selecting a front three of new signing Arran Wearmouth, Robbie Dale and Dan Maguire he certainly put out a positive line up and was rewarded with a quick paced and creative football from the trio. Buddle added to the post match plaudits to Spartans style of play and insisted that his side would score goals this season no matter what.

“It’s brilliant and makes our jobs as defenders easier. We have plenty of creativity and know we are going to score goals, we just need to do our jobs and keep goals out to make sure we get the results. Today was a mixture we could have taken more chances and we could have defended better but we will learn from that”

There is a quick turnaround in fixtures for Spartans as they travel to Stocksbridge Park Steels on Monday afternoon as they look to but further build on the positive start to the season and Buddle praised the “great togetherness” of the squad ahead of the trip to Yorkshire.

“We really have a great togetherness in the squad and every is raring to go on Monday. We just have to right the wrongs of today and ensure we come back from Stocksbridge with the result we want.”
