Nolan delight at first home goal

Spartans striker Rob Nolan declared himself “delighted” to have grabbed his maiden Croft Park strike after netting a brace in the 4-1 win over Clitheroe. The former North Shields forward netted in last Saturday’s impressive win at Whitley Bay but got off the mark in front of the Croft Park faithful with a wonderful twenty five yard effort. He went on to add to that late on with a rather more straight forward one on one finish and wants to add to them throughout his Spartans career.

“It was really good and I was getting worried when my first goal at Croft Park would come but I’m delighted it has. It’s great to be off the mark and hopefully it will be the first of many because I really love it here, I’ve settled in straight away.”

With only one Spartans player reaching double figures last season manager Tom Wade identified Nolan as a player who would give the side more of a threat in front of goal. The striker was a regular scorer for North Shields in last season’s Northern League and is hopeful that he can repay the faith Wade has shown in him by continuing to be a regular source of goals once the competitive action gets underway at Marine on 18th August.

“Obviously it’s what I am here to do and it’s what I am known for, scoring goals is what I’ve been brought in to do and hopefully I can continue to do that. I can’t wait for the first game of the season, obviously in pre-season we have played some really good sides and we are getting some good results so hopefully we can take that into the new season.
